Summer 2021 Assessed grade Process

Deadline for submission of assessed grades and portfolios of work:

Friday, 30th April 2021

(MTC cannot guarantee that grades and portfolios received after this deadline will be processed, which may result in no grade being entered)

If your tutor has not done so already, they should contact MTC to have their credentials validated. We are obliged to confirm that they are qualified to assess a grade on your behalf, and they should be prepared to provide a copy of their CV and/or copies of relevant qualifications.

All assessed grades, tutor declaration sheets and supporting portfolios of work must be submitted to MTC by your tutor

Your tutor should submit a completed copy of the MTC Summer 2021 Tutor Declaration Form (please email [email protected] for a copy) and the complete portfolio of supporting work. Please make sure that your tutor has a copy of this form, and that they have been made aware of the following submission guidelines.

  • the supporting portfolio must be provided to MTC electronically at [email protected]
  • student work for submission must be collated by the tutor and the complete portfolio provided to MTC in a single submission
  • Each piece of work included in the portfolio must have a filename which includes the student name and subject, as a minimum, to ensure that they are easily distinguishable (For example: JaneDoe_Maths_Paper1.doc)
  • Each piece of work in the portfolio must have been assessed by your tutor and include a clear indication of the mark/grade awarded
  • All work, including any annotations, must be legible. Please check before sending.

Finally, once received, please ensure that you have also read the explanatory notes contained within the Tutor Declaration Form. In particular, please note that where the portfolio submitted clearly does not support the assessed grade provided, MTC reserves the right to enter a U (Unclassified) grade, or to submit no grade.

Best of luck with your ongoing studies.

Covid-19 Update – 13th January 2021

In order to keep everyone informed, please find enclosed a summary of the current situation.

Macclesfield Tutorial College is currently closed, in line with government directives and all our staff are doing their best to work remotely to ensure the on-going support of our students, exam candidates and other customers. We continue to offer high quality and effective tuition in most levels and subjects, and are also still accepting examination applications.

We are unable to accept telephone calls so please email us at [email protected] if you have any urgent questions or concerns.

MTC Students following full or part time study courses

We are continuing to offer support to all of our students. Most students have now moved onto a timetable of online lessons but there are alternative solutions should that not be an option. Please contact us to discuss what is best for you so that you do not miss out on valuable tuition time. We will keep you informed of progress with lessons and are striving to maintain existing timetables wherever possible.

Students receiving supporting tuition

If you wish to continue your lessons, please let us know. Depending upon tutor availability, we may be able to offer online lessons. Many students have already moved to online lessons and continue to benefit from high quality tuition from our experienced tutors. Contact us for more information.

Examination candidates

All summer 2021 GCSE and A Level exams have been cancelled. This is true for each of the UK exam boards and for all centres nationally. At this stage, IGCSE exams are still going ahead as intended and MTC will offer these exams (subject to Covid related government guidance).

As with the previously cancelled Summer 2020 exam series, Macclesfield Tutorial College will do everything possible to support candidates entered with us. We advise that candidates should gather evidence of their work which might be used as evidence to support a Centre Assessed Grade. Should the same process for calculating grades as was used in 2020 be utilised this year, evidence of study and ability will be critical. In order to receive a grade, candidates will need to be able to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Candidates should have a qualified, independent third party who can provide a predicted grade for them and authenticate all submitted evidence. This should be a tutor/teacher who will need to supply their credentials for MTC to validate. A family member is not permitted to submit a grade nor authenticate.
  • There is a sufficient body of evidence of the candidate’s work which can be submitted to us to support the candidate’s ability to achieve the predicted grade. This should be candidate’s work which has been assessed/marked by the tutor and can be in the form of mock exams, past papers, coursework, and classwork/work completed during lessons. MTC reserves the right to amend a submitted grade if the evidence does not support it.

We are closely monitoring the situation and, as more information becomes available, we will communicate with our candidates. We are also lobbying to ensure that private candidates are taken into account during this process.

If a candidate is not able to satisfy the above criteria, they should contact us directly at [email protected] and we will advise of the available options.

Stay safe and healthy.

Whether you are looking for a complete GCSE or A Level study course, a private tutor, or an approved centre to sit your exams, we are here to help. We are accredited with each of the main UK examination boards and are experienced providing tuition and exams in most subjects across various levels, typically GCSE and A Level.

Peace of mind in difficult times

The College has implemented thorough Covid-19 compliant procedures to ensure the safety of students, visitors and staff. Tuition rooms are clearly marked for social distancing between tutor and student, rooms are cleaned between lessons, hand sanitiser is provided in the building, and a one-way system is in operation. The College is also regularly cleaned and disinfected.

Throughout lockdown , we continued to support our students and exam candidates, despite closure of the College itself. Where appropriate, lessons were conducted remotely via our online portal and work was set for students to complete at home. Our exam centre continued to support the many hundreds of private candidates enrolled to sit exams in the cancelled Summer 2020 GCSE and A Level series. In fact, given our desire to make qualifications accessible to all, we continued to accept exam applications from private candidates who had been withdrawn from other centres around the country and to offer help and advice to everyone who contacted us.

We match students with the best available tutors, offer bespoke timetables to fit in around other commitments, and can accommodate flexible delivery to ensure teaching is optimised for each student. Corona Virus Update – 27 March

In order to keep everyone informed, please find enclosed a summary of the current situation.

Macclesfield Tutorial College is now fully closed, in line with government directives and all our staff are now doing their best to work remotely to ensure the on-going support of our students, exam candidates and other customers.

We are unable to accept telephone calls so please email us at [email protected] if you have any urgent questions or concerns.

Examination candidates

All summer 2020 GCSE and A Level exams have been cancelled. This is true for each of the UK exam boards and for all centres nationally. All candidates will be able to receive a grade in the subjects for which they have been entered and the government will soon announce full details of the process for calculating a fair and accurate grade for each candidate. We are closely monitoring the situation and expect further updates on this soon. We are also lobbying to ensure that private candidates are taken into account during this process.

Our advice to all candidates at this time is to ensure you have collected as much evidence of prior attainment as you can – past papers and other independently assessed work (Eg. marked by a tutor) which demonstrate candidate ability. It is highly likely that any suggested grade will need to be back up by evidence of ability.

There will also be opportunities for candidates to sit exams early in the next academic year, should they need to.

More to follow on this..

Corona Virus Update

Following the UK government announcement this evening regarding the closure of all schools and colleges from this Friday, Macclesfield Tutorial College will be closing to all students once lessons conclude this Friday, 20th March 2020.

Given the extraordinary global situation, we recognise that these extreme measures are necessary to safeguard everyone’s health. However, we do not underestimate the importance of our students’ education and have been working hard to ensure that we are able to offer alternative methods of support.

Talk to us – we’ll do our best to help

If you currently receive supporting tuition from us and would like to discuss how we can continue to provide lessons, please call or e-mail us. With the kind cooperation of many of our tutors, we are able to consider home visits (subject to the current NHS advice) and/or online lessons.

For MTC students currently studying full GCSE and A Level courses, you should already have received communication from us to present the available options for you. If you have not yet talked to us about this, please get in touch and we will work out a plan to maintain as much of your on-going studies as is possible.

Naturally, many customers may wish to place lessons on hold at this difficult time. Please let us know if that is the case.

Summer 2020 Exams

This evening, it was also announced that all GCSE and A Level exams scheduled to take place this May/June are cancelled. At this point, we are not able to provide further clarification as to exactly what candidates should expect. Over the coming days and weeks, we will continue to liaise with the examination boards, and Ofqual directly if necessary, to determine the next steps. We fully appreciate the stress and concern this will cause to everyone who was expecting to sit exams this summer but ask for patience as the very serious consequences of Coronavirus unfold.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Best wishes and good health to everyone.
